The Public Safety Administration curriculum is designed to provide students, as well as practitioners, with knowledge and skills in the technical, managerial, and administrative areas necessary for entrance or advancement within various public safety and government organizations.

Course work in diverse subject areas includes public safety administration and education, inter-agency operations, crisis leadership, government and agency financial management, professional standards, incident management, administrative law, and supervision, while providing a streamlined pathway that recognizes the value of previously earned skill sets and credentials within the public safety sector.

Employment opportunities exist with fire or police departments, emergency management organizations, governmental agencies, industrial firms, correctional facilities, private industries, insurance organizations, educational organizations, security and protective organizations, and through self-employment opportunities.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Public Safety Administration program, a graduate should be able to:

  • Apply the necessary business principles to a real world scenario.
  • Identify the daily managerial requirements of risk management.
  • Demonstrate the ability to investigate and legally settle claims.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of North Carolina Department of Insurance requirements and be prepared to sit for the state licensing exam.

Degree Awarded

The Associate in Applied Science Degree - Public Safety Administration is awarded by the College upon completion of this program.

Notes

Students would only be able to graduate from one of the designated tracks in the First Semester (either Corrections or Security/Loss Prevention track).  Students will not be able to repeat the fifth semester and graduate the second track.
