The Human Services Technology curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in institutions and agencies which provide social, community, and educational services. Along with core courses, students take courses which prepare them for specialization in specific human service area.
Students will take courses from a variety of disciplines. Emphasis in core courses is placed on development of relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes in human services. Fieldwork experience will provide opportunities for application of knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.
Graduates should qualify for positions in mental health, child care, family services, social services, rehabilitation, correction, and educational agencies. Graduates choosing to continue their education may select from a variety of transfer programs at senior public and private institutions.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Human Services Technology program, the graduate should be able to:
- Analyze human behavior and development from historical, biological, psychological and sociological perspectives.
- Apply principles related to the diversity of peoples and cultures in the therapeutic relationship.
- Demonstrate professional report writing, program evaluation and/or case documentation.
- Apply critical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills in clinical practice
Graduation Requirement
Students must demonstrate competency in Math Skills by completion of DMA 025 and DMA 045 with a minimum of P or equivalent.
Degree Awarded
The Associate in Applied Science Degree-Human Services Technology is awarded by the College upon completion of this program.
